Citizen, the renowned Japanese watch brand, is making a comeback with an all-new three-watch collection featuring a brand-new movement. The latest Citizen Eco-Drive 365 collection is inspired by one of the brand’s earliest quartz models, the 1973 Citizen Quartz E.F.A. This vintage model had an iconic design that epitomized a future-oriented era, where quartz watches showcased their futuristic timekeeping capabilities through their striking case designs and glamorous dials. With the increasing trend of vintage-inspired watches and the preference of the wider watch market for quartz watches, these new Citizen watches will most likely sell fast.
Citizen has introduced its latest Eco-Drive advancements with the new Calibre E365, which further enhances the advantages of Citizen’s Eco-Drive technology, such as low power consumption, long running times, and the ability to hold an entire year of reserve on a full charge. The Eco-Drive 365 collection comprises three models, including a limited-edition piece, that are part of the brand’s Global Collection. The designs are inspired by the 1973 Citizen Quartz EFA watch, and the limited-edition model features lab-grown rubies that mimic the indices on the 1973 original.
The two standard models have a modern, stealthy look, with one being entirely blacked out, featuring a black ion-plated stainless steel case and bracelet. The other model has the same black dial and bezel, but a conventional stainless steel case and bracelet. Both models have contemporary proportions, with a diameter of 42.5mm and a height of 11.1mm. They feature an unconventional shape highlighted by two angular sections at the top and bottom, and the crown is integrated into the right side for a seamless aesthetic.
The black dials of these watches are dotted with four types of glittering accents with different colors and sizes that create a surface reminiscent of a starry sky. These dials are paired with grey hands and applied indices. A color-matching date window sits at 3 o’clock, and the dial is protected by a sapphire crystal. The watches are water-resistant up to 100 meters.
The limited edition watch is a cool vintage-inspired piece that features design cues from the 1973 Citizen Quartz EFA. It shares the black dial, dimensions, and water resistance of the regular models, but the hands and indices are now gold-colored, with red lab-grown rubies at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock. The outer bezel is also polished steel instead of black ion-plated, and the strap is brown LWG-certified calf leather that replaces the steel bracelet. All models are powered by the new Calibre E365 Eco-Drive with an accuracy of +/-15 seconds per month and a one-year power reserve.
The two standard watches will retail at USD 530 for the all-black model and USD 480 for the black and steel model, while the limited edition will retail at USD 875. All three watches will be available in Fall/Winter 2023. For more information, please visit Citizen’s website.
