Girard-Perregaux and Aston Martin have joined forces in recent years to create a stunning array of timepieces, and their latest release, the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Green Ceramic Aston Martin Edition, might just be the most visually captivating yet.
For the first time, the Girard-Perregaux Laureato graces the world with a green ceramic case and bracelet in both 42mm and 38mm case sizes. The iconic British racing green hue pays homage to their partnership with Aston Martin and has been a popular choice in previous releases. As a limited edition offering, there will be 388 pieces in the 42mm size and 188 pieces in the 38mm size.
The Laureato first made its appearance in 1975 and has since earned its place among the initial wave of integrated bracelet sports watches. Its signature octagonal bezel and streamlined case design make for an exceptionally comfortable and versatile sports watch, maintaining its appeal despite no longer being the hidden gem it once was. While full ceramic versions in all-white and all-black have been introduced in the past, the green iteration is undoubtedly the most striking.
Crafted from zirconium and metallic oxide to create the green ceramic, the final product boasts a deep, rich green hue with a touch more vibrancy than forest green. The well-known lightweight and scratch-resistant properties of ceramic never cease to impress, and the relative rarity of all-ceramic watches adds a sense of luxury to the material.
Though the hardness of ceramic poses challenges when it comes to finishing techniques, the green ceramic Laureato features both polished and brushed surfaces. The bracelet’s H-shaped end links exhibit mirrored beveling along the outer edges, extending to the case’s sides. The contrast between the brushed bezel and polished lower bezel plate further enhances the watch’s aesthetic appeal, showcasing Girard-Perregaux’s expertise in working with ceramic cases and bracelets.
The dial features a cross-hatched diamond pattern, reminiscent of the vintage Aston Martin logo from the 1920s, which has become a recurring motif in the timepieces born from this collaboration. While the rhodium-framed hands may not offer optimal legibility against the dark green dial, the generous application of white lume effectively addresses this concern. Additionally, the date window matches the green dial, with the date displayed in a contrasting white.
The 42mm version measures a comfortably wearable 11.08mm in thickness, while the 38mm version comes in at 10.27mm. Both models boast 100m water resistance and anti-reflective coating. The 42mm model features the automatic GP01800-2165 movement, operating at 4 Hz with a 54-hour power reserve, whereas the 38mm model houses the automatic GP03300-2166 movement, also operating at 4 Hz but with a slightly shorter power reserve of 46 hours. Both models have the Aston Martin decal on the case back, which fortunately does not obscure too much of the beautifully finished movement, complete with circular graining and Geneva stripes.
The 38mm version, limited to 188 pieces, is equipped with the GP01800 Calibre and retails for 26,300€ USD. The 42mm edition, available in 388 pieces, runs on the GP03300 Calibre and is priced at 27,200€. Both self-winding in-house movements can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back, adorned with a white Aston Martin decal at the center. For more information, please visit the GP website.
