It’s only March, but G-SHOCK has already released a slew of new watches, both on its own and in collaboration with others. Following a recent partnership with Hender Scheme, the watchmaker has shifted its focus back to its core lineup and unveiled the latest addition to the 2100 series: the all-gold GMB2100GD-9A.
This timepiece boasts a minimalist and luxurious design, with a full-metal construction featuring a screw-back case, bezel, and band made of stainless steel. The bezel has an octagonal shape with a dimpled band, paying homage to the original 1983 model, and is coated in yellow gold ion plating.
Casio took great care in finishing the metal underneath the IP coating. The bezel’s top surface has a circular hairline finish, while the angled surfaces are polished to a mirror finish, and the raised areas of the case sides have a lengthwise hairline finish. The stainless steel bezel was “repeatedly and meticulously forged, cut, and polished,” including sections that are hidden by other parts of the case for a superior fit compared to less expensive G-Shock watches.
The stainless steel case measures 49.8 x 44.4 x 12.8 millimeters, making it thinner than many mechanical chronographs equipped with 7750 movements. As expected, water resistance is rated at 200 meters, and the watch is “shock-resistant.” However, the durability of the IP-gold plating and mineral glass in response to wear and tear may vary, so use caution when testing them.
Take a closer look at the newest G-SHOCK GMB2100GD-9A in the gallery below. The price of the G-Shock GMB2100GD-9A watch is $600, which may seem like a lot for a G-Shock, but it’s actually quite reasonable for an all-gold (looking) watch crafted to a much higher standard than most gold-plated competitors in this price range. You can learn more about the watch on the brand’s website.
