Despite the criticism faced by Hublot as a serious watchmaker, the introduction of the Hublot MP-13 Tourbillon Bi-Axis Retrograde continues to defy and mock naysayers. This latest addition to the MP collection, which stands for “masterpiece,” embodies the zenith of Hublot’s watchmaking expertise in both its innovative appearance and technical mastery.
Hublot’s MP Series: A Showcase of Aesthetic and Technological Prowess
Launched in 2011, the Hublot MP series is where the Nyon-based brand displays its manufacturing prowess. The MP models boast some of the most advanced, impressive, and unconventional designs Hublot has ever created. With twelve different models so far, the MP-09 is the most recent update. The latest addition, the Big Bang MP-13 Tourbillon Bi-Axis Retrograde, was unveiled at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2023.
The Big Bang MP-13: A Bold Titanium Case with Advanced Features
The Hublot Big Bang MP-13 Tourbillon Bi-Axis Retrograde features a striking titanium case that houses a new manufacture movement with a dual-axis tourbillon, a power reserve indicator, and a bi-retrograde display for both hours and minutes. With a brushed titanium case, the watch measures 44mm in diameter and 16.7mm in thickness. The unique case design is visually connected to the rest of Hublot’s modern lineup while offering innovative elements like the asymmetric three-dimensional sapphire crystal and a two-sided display window for the bi-axis tourbillon.
An Open-Worked Dial for Showcasing the Advanced Movement
The dial of the new Hublot Big Bang MP-13 is predominantly open-worked to showcase its advanced manufacture movement. The power reserve indicator and bi-retrograde display take center stage, with the bi-axis tourbillon prominently displayed through the curved asymmetric crystal. The unique mounting without an upper bridge allows an unobstructed view of the dual-axis rotation.
The HUB6200 Movement: A Technological Marvel
The new HUB6200 manufacture movement powers the Hublot Big Bang MP-13 Tourbillon Bi-Axis Retrograde. Comprised of 374 components, the manual-wind caliber operates at a frequency of 21,600vph (3 Hz) and offers a 4-day power reserve (approximately 96 hours). The bi-axis tourbillon rotates once every minute on one axis and every thirty seconds on the other, giving it a floating appearance within the case.
Limited Edition and Pricing
As with all Hublot MP models, the new MP-13 is produced as a limited edition, with only 50 numbered pieces available. Priced at $158,000 USD, the Hublot Big Bang MP-13 Tourbillon Bi-Axis Retrograde is a premium timepiece, though still more affordable than the 3D Carbon version of the MP-09. Future variations of the MP-13 in different colors and materials are expected, as has been the case with the MP-09.
