Grand Seiko has always been known for incorporating scenes of nature and texture in its designs. The iconic White Birch, also known as the SLAG007G, is a prime example of this design philosophy. Since then, Grand Seiko has created numerous models inspired by nature, architecture, and seasonal changes. Winter scenes in Japan have become a recurring theme for the brand, which is also the inspiration behind the dial of the new reference SBGJ271, based on the popular Elegance GMT watch.
The SBGJ27 features a flat white dial with intricate patterns that create a more subdued and gentle look, reminiscent of a light dusting of snow. The watch is powered by a Hi-Beat GMT Caliber 9S86 movement, boasting an impressive 55 hours of power reserve and an accuracy rating of +5/-3 seconds a day. Its hi-beat feature has a beat rate of 36,000 vibrations per hour, providing a smoother sweep.
The polished hands and brushed steel bracelet with a push-button deployant clasp bearing the GS insignia enhance the snowy aesthetic of the watch. Grand Seiko is renowned for its exquisite dial work, and the SBGJ271 is no exception. The vertical lines on the dial are a nod to the trees, emphasizing the winter theme of the watch. While the dial pattern is similar to that of the Snowflake, the SBGJ271 adds its unique touch, giving off similar vibes to its predecessor.
Unlike the autumn-themed model, the SBGJ271 has a GMT complication, enabling travelers to keep track of time in two different time zones. The white dial design allows for a harmonious layout despite its busier dial layout. The watch exudes a sense of casualness with its 3-link stainless steel bracelet and folding clasp.
